Dreamachine is a project inspired by an experimental device that creates vivid illusions and colours in the mind with flickering light and sound. It is a multi-disciplinary programme of immersive art, learning and research that explores the nature of perception and consciousness.
In its original form, a Dreamachine is a work of light art made from a cylinder with regularly spaced shapes cut out of its sides. The cylinder is then placed on a record turntable and rotated, depending on the scale, at either 78 or 45 revolutions per minute.
Dreamachine is a multi-sensory installation that invites you to close your eyes and explore the potential of your own mind. Created by Collective Act, it features 360 degree spatial audio and flickering lights, and has toured across the UK and will soon visit more locations worldwide.
