Born in 1901, Lloyd Robert Maxwell Ross, OBE, was an author, academic, advisor to prime ministers, senior public servant, trade union leader, journalist, and always adult educator. After graduating from Melbourne University, he continued with graduate studies.
Lloyd Robert Maxwell Ross (1901-1987), adult educator, trade union official and writer, was born on 28 February 1901 in Brisbane, elder child of Sydney-born Robert (Bob) Samuel Ross, printer, and his Brisbane-born wife Ethel, née Slaughter. Lloyd attended University High School, Melbourne.
Lloyd Ross was the son of the well-known socialist R. S. Ross (1875-1931). He founded the Victorian Railways Union and was editor of the Socialist, and worked as an adult education teacher and freelance journalist.
