Martin Fabinyi is an Australian film and television producer and director and music label owner and has written books on the local rock music scene. He was the chief executive officer of Mushroom Pictures [1] from its formation in 1993 to 2009.
Jun 13, 2024 · “Midnight Oil took quite a while to come on board but they finally got there,” Martin Fabinyi said. “About seven years ago Paul (Clarke) and I and producer Carolina Sorenson did a short film called Backburning with them, and that cemented our relationship and that became the basis of the documentary.”
Martin is an experienced music and film producer and has also written books on rock music. He founded the Regular Records label, representing artists including Mental as Anything and Icehouse, before forming Mushroom Pictures in 1993.
He was on track for a lifetime career in a tuxedo. Then he met that girl. In his late teens, she and other friends led his musical interests astray with a strong dose of David Bowie, T-Rex, Lou Reed and Brian Eno. An early dalliance with folk-rock led to two unspectacular singles, but by 1977 he was hungry for something edgier.
The reissue started when Goodge ran into Martin Fabinyi, who ran I’m Talking’s label Regular Records (also home to Mental as Anything, Icehouse and the Reels).
