Charles de Saint-Étienne de La Tour (1593–1666) was a Huguenot French colonist and fur trader who served as Governor of Acadia from 1631–1642 and again from 1653–1657. Early life.
On 8 Feb. 1631 Louis XIII signed a royal commission naming Charles de La Tour governor and lieutenant-general of the king; it was delivered either by Laurent Ferchaud or Krainguille, who brought out the requested materials for La Tour’s use at Saint John.

Charles de la Tour de Saint-Étienne wanted to protect his father's possessions in the Penobscot area. It resulted in a conflict between him and d'Aulnay who was also responsible for colonizing Acadia.
