Noose (Polish: Pętla) is a Polish film released in 1958, directed by Wojciech Jerzy Has, and starring Gustaw Holoubek. The film is an adaptation of a short story by Marek Hłasko, and follows a day in the life of an alcoholic.
Wojciech Jerzy Has's feature debut, which he co-wrote with Marek Hłasko, was interpreted as a poignant study of alcoholism and human fall at the time of its premiere. Krzysztof Teodor Toeplitz commented: Clearly, the authors’ point was to tire out the viewer.
Marek Hłasko, author of the screenplay and of the novella that inspired it, was to be declared persona non grata in Poland soon thereafter, in 1958. As to Has, he was severely reprimanded by the critics, and never again made a film as grim and gloomy and as devoid of humor.

Marek Hłasko (14 January 1934 – 14 June 1969) was a Polish author and screenwriter . Life. Hłasko's biography is highly mythologized, and many of the legends about his life he spread himself. Marek was born in Warsaw, as the only son of Maciej Hłasko and Maria Łucja, née Rosiak. [1] .
