Koreyoshi Kurahara was born on 31 May 1927 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. He was a director and writer, known for Antarctica (1983), Eight Below (2006) and Kaitei kara kita onna (1959). He was married to Yumiko Miyagino. He died on 28 December 2002 in Yokohama, Japan.

His free-form approach to moviemaking was perfectly suited to the radical spirit of the 1960s, when he was one of the biggest hit makers working at the razzle-dazzle, youth-oriented Nikkatsu studios.
Still, his distinctive outlook makes Eclipse Series 28: The Warped World of Koreyoshi Kurahara just as essential a document as the Oshima and (yet to come) Kobayashi collections to understand what was happening in this fascinating transitional era in Japanese film and culture.
