Oskar Karlweis was the son of a civil servant name Karl Weis who wrote for the theatre and about Vienna. His older suster Marta was also an author (she married Jakob Wassermann). Oskar grew up in Vienna and studied law, but he abandoned his studied because he was more interested in art.
