Sherman Mills Fairchild (April 7, 1896 – March 28, 1971) was an American businessman and investor who founded over 70 companies, including Fairchild Aviation, Fairchild Industries, and Fairchild Camera and Instrument.
Sherman Mills Fairchild’s outstanding contributions to aviation began during World War I when he developed an improved aerial camera with a between-the-lens shutter, forming the Fairchild Aerial Camera Corporation in 1920. It later became the standard aerial camera of the U.S. military services.
