Oct 6, 2023 · Wikispecies is intended to be a free taxonomic reference and directory, for both the scientist and the average reader. It exists as a database aggregating the classifications and genetic family tree of all species of life, from all six kingdoms.
Aug 21, 2023 · Wikispecies is not a fork of Wikipedia. It is quite the opposite. Wikispecies aims to feed into the Wikipedias. Features such as cross-wiki transclusion are being worked on to make this easier. Integrating Wikispecies into Wikimedia, rather than it being a separate project, prevents a fork.
Wikispecies is a sister project of Wikipedia, and so it is a wiki supported by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is a free directory of species that wants to make a full catalog of all living things. It tells of how species are classified into groups ( taxonomy ), and how those groups are similar to one another.
