The Open Air School is a historic building in the Tuttle Park area of Old North Columbus in Columbus, Ohio. The building was constructed as a school, and today houses local a café, bar, a fitness center, and event space. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.

Jan 23, 2024 · According to the National Register nomination for the school, the premise of an open-air school was that children’s bodies could be strengthened against tuberculosis by exposing them to abundant fresh air in all seasons and providing ample rest and good nutrition.
Built in 1928 and designed by Columbus schools architect Howard Dwight Smith, Open Air is an example of an early 20th century effort to provide an educational and healthful setting for the prevention of Tuberculosis in the most vulnerable children of the day.

Dec 2, 2021 · The U-shaped 1928 Open Air School was built as part of a $10 million program that gave the city 16 new elementary, junior high and high schools. It was dedicated in 1929 and designed by architect Howard Dwight Smith, best remembered as the designer of Ohio Stadium.
