I think to most people one would respond "Thank you for comforting me", or "Thank you for being so kind". That could do for either sex. As a man speaking to a man friend you might say "Thanks, mate, I appreciate that".

Commitment here appears to refer to some form of obligation (for example, working in a job the person dislikes), which the person finds tiresome and boring. The sentence seems to suggest that this means they have no need for ambitions or love of comfort.
