  1. Mar 14, 2018 · Beeswax is used in embroidery, but only in certain circumstances, and all those circumstances have to do with strengthening and protecting the thread. So, in goldwork, beeswax is used to coat the thread before using it to sew the real metal threads onto the fabric. Coating a silk or even synthetic thread with beeswax protects the thread from ...

  2. Dec 10, 2010 · To use beeswax for goldwork, run the stitching thread two or three times through your cake of wax, and then run it slowly through your fingers to smooth out any bumps of wax and kind of “melt” the beeswax onto the thread. Beeswax is used for other needlework adventures, too. Hand quilters, for example, will often use it to stiffen sewing ...

  3. Nov 9, 2020 · The beeswax hexagons that it produces are lovely, but they’re really too big to include in most kits. I usually make a few for studio use and occasionally for gift giving. Aside from using for candles, beeswax makes nice household decorations – a few of these hexagons scattered among a candle arrangement on a rustic table looks lovely! It ...

  4. Nov 1, 2013 · And I love the little beeswax flower included in the kit! The instruction booklet for “Gingko” take the stitcher from the set-up through the finish of the project. This particular kit is an intermediate level kit (on her website, Jen points out the various kit levels available ), so it assumes some knowledge of the techniques already.

Spun silk has a very soft, pleasant sheen that isn’t glaring or “shiny” as much as it is “glowy.”. 8. You can stitch with spun silk in the same way that you stitch with cotton floss.

  6. Jan 17, 2012 · This is how I cut 5 yards of linen into project-sized pieces. One mangled block of beeswax later, I had 145 pieces of linen, cut perfectly on the grain. It’s the best method I know of for achieving a clean cut on the grain with linen, without any waste. If you know of another way to cut linen on the grain, feel free to share your tips below!

  7. Nov 13, 2017 · The best type of beeswax is 100% natural beeswax with no additives. The disk that you find in craft stores that has a clear plastic casing and slits in it to run the thread through usually contains a mixture of paraffin as well, which is not necessary and which also leads to flaky residue. You can find small blocks of 100% natural beeswax through different sources online – there are lots of ...

At this time, we’re out of beeswax petites and we’re out of needle minders. I always have an early shopping event for members on Patreon before I launched a new ...

  9. Jul 17, 2023 · The beeswax petites are a bit tricky, because we have to convert the work area of the studio to wax production – laying tarps, covering tables, laying out equipment that’s not easy to put away each night, and making sure that no embroidery supplies are out while we’re splashing around in beeswax… but oooooooh, it smells sooooo gooood. I do love working with beeswax!

  10. Dec 3, 2011 · The couching thread is waxed with 100% beeswax. After using different kinds of beeswax for this type of stitching, I’ve discovered that 100% beeswax that’s sold in chunks is great. The chunks can be bricks, disks, or pretty little decorative molded beeswax. The stuff that’s sold encased in little plastic disks for “ease of use” is ...
