Sep 12, 2022 · GENEVA (ILO News) – Fifty million people were living in modern slavery in 2021, according to the latest Global Estimates of Modern Slavery. Of these people, 28 million were in forced labour and 22 million were trapped in forced marriage.
Centuries on from the abolition of slavery in major economies worldwide, enforced labour is still a huge problem. A new International Labour Organization (ILO) report shows that 50 million people – that’s 1 in every 150 worldwide– are in situations of slavery globally. More than 3.3 million of these are children.
