Chris Hani was a South African political activist who was assassinated in 1993. He was a prominent member of the African National Congress (ANC) and a leader of the South African Communist Party (SACP).

Due to his integral role in MK organised guerrilla operations, Hani became the target of assassination attempts from 1981, including a failed car bomb assassination attempt by Ernest Ramatolo on 2 August.
