Live and Become (Va, vis et deviens) (2005), Radu Mihaileanu. Synopsis. 1984. Hundreds of thousands from 26 famine-struck countries find themselves in camps in Sudan. Initiated by Israel and the United States, a vast project (Operation Moses) is undertaken to bring the Ethiopian Jews (Falashas) to Israel.
A Christian boy escapes to Israel from famine-stricken Ethiopia by pretending to be Jewish. In 1980 the black Falashas in Ethiopia are recognised as genuine Jews. In turn they are secretly carried to Israel. The day before the transport the son of a Jewish mother dies.
