Dec 9, 2018 · Vox first started to build guitars in 1961, and in 1962 in order to compete with American instrument makers Vox introduced their iconic Phantom guitar. Most if not all British aspiring and popular rock and roll musicians were using the Vox AC-30 amplifiers as a cheaper alternative to paying taxes and import fees on American made amps.
Today, vintage Vintage Vox guitars are highly collectable, especially the teardrop and phantom styed guitars, and the more unusual models: early JMI guitars and those with complicated inbuilt effects circuitry.
While the great bands of the 1960s British Invasion used lots of different guitars, the one that shouted out “1960’s Mod Style” more than other was the teardrop shaped Vox Mark series. The Vox Mark was most famously used by Rolling Stone Brian Jones, who played a white six-string prototype made in the UK.
