Raymond Samuel Tomlinson (April 23, 1941 – March 5, 2016) was an American [1] [2] [3] [4] computer programmer who implemented the first email program on the ARPANET system, the precursor to the Internet, in 1971; [5] [6] [7] [8] It was the first system able to send mail between users on different hosts connected to ARPANET.
Official Biography: Raymond Tomlinson. Raymond Samuel Tomlinson was born in Amsterdam, New York in 1941. He attended college at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he participated in an internship program with IBM and received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1963.
