The Potomac School strives to be a great school. Our mission, simply put, is to prepare students for lives of purpose, achievement, and generosity of spirit. The three dynamic women who founded our school set out with this mission in 1904, and it continues to guide everything that we do.
The Potomac School is a coeducational, college-preparatory independent day school located on a wooded 90-acre campus in McLean, Virginia, United States, three miles (5 km) from Washington, D.C. Average class size is 15-17 students.
Upper School students are challenged to think critically and creatively; express themselves clearly and articulately; make relevant connections between disciplines; and begin to explore the many ways that knowledge and skills can be applied to address real-world issues.
