Bridgerton is an American historical romance television series created by Chris Van Dusen for Netflix. Based on the book series by Julia Quinn, it is Shondaland's first scripted show for Netflix.
Background. Set between 1813 and 1827, each novel features one of the eight children of the late Viscount Bridgerton and his widow Violet: Anthony, who is the current Viscount Bridgerton, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth.
Although they are based on real-life historical figures, the depiction of royal characters in the two series is largely fictional. Queen Charlotte (played by Golda Rosheuvel in Bridgerton, and India Amarteifio in the prequel) is based on the real life queen consort Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
