Life and career. Albert Napoleon Ricard was born in Boston and grew up in Acushnet, Massachusetts, near New Bedford. As a young teenager he ran away to Boston and assimilated into the literary scene of the city. By age eighteen, he had moved to New York City, where he became a protégé of Andy Warhol.
Rene Ricard was a multifaceted artist who worked with poetry, painting, film, and art criticism. He was part of the Warhol Factory scene, influenced by Basquiat and Haring, and lived in the Chelsea Hotel.
