Cherating Turtle Sanctuary is located just beside Asia's first Club Med in Cherating, Pahang. This centre was established in the year 1972 as a turtle hatchery in an effort to protect the endanger species in particular the Leatherback Turtle. It is open to the public since June, 1 1998.
There are few if any opportunities to release turtles to the sea. Definitely call ahead. This sanctuary consists of three very small, shallow pools where turtles are kept for viewing. One of the biggest turtles had a large, blue flake of paint from the pool in its mouth when we first arrived.

Admission is FREE, and donation (in the box provided) is appreciated. To get there, from Kuantan take a bus, a taxi or drive, following directions towards Kemamam/Kuala Terengganu.
