Village of Freelton. The community is named after its founder, Patrick Freel, who in 1840 built a hotel on the site. Before regional government changed boundaries, Freelton was at the junction of the townships of East Flamborough, West Flamborough, and Beverly. Freel's brother-in-law, Thomas Campbell, also built a hotel in Freelton.
