Transylvania (Hungarian: Erdély [ˈɛrdeːj]; or Romanian: Transilvania [tran.silˈva.ni.a]; or Ardeal; German: Siebenbürgen [ˌziːbənˈbʏʁɡən] ⓘ or Transsilvanien, historically Überwald, also Siweberjen in the Transylvanian Saxon dialect) is a historical and cultural region in Central Europe, encompassing central Romania.
