Alesso or Alessio Baldovinetti (14 October 1427 – 29 August 1499) was an Italian early Renaissance painter and draftsman. Biography. Portrait of a Lady in Yellow, 1400s, c. 1465, The National Gallery, London. Baldovinetti was born in Florence to a rich noble family of merchants.
Alessio Baldovinetti (born Oct. 14, 1425, Florence [Italy]—died Aug. 29, 1499, Florence) was a painter whose work exemplified the careful modeling of form and the accurate depiction of light characteristic of the most progressive style of Florentine painting during the last half of the 15th century.
about 1426 - 1499. Image: Alesso Baldovinetti. Baldovinetti came from a wealthy Florentine family. As well as painting on panel and in fresco, he worked in stained glass and mosaic. His style is marked by the influence of Domenico Veneziano, who was active in Florence from 1439 to 1445.
Portrait of a Lady in Yellow was painted by the Florentine artist Alesso Baldovinetti sometime in the second half of the 15th century, most likely c. 1465. For centuries the work was misattributed; it was purchased by the National Gallery London in 1866 as a portrait of Countess Palma of Urbino, attributed to Piero della Francesca . [2]
Born in Florence, Baldovinetti’s work is regarded amongst a group of Italian painters that were scientific realists or naturalists. Baldovinetti attributed much of his early influence to a pioneer of visual perspective art, Paolo Uccello (1397 – 1475).

The early Renaissance painter Alesso Baldovinetti, whose great fresco of the Annunciation in the cloister of the Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata in Florence is still intact, was born on this day in 1425 in Florence.
