Pada tahun 1993, kerajaan negeri Kedah telah memperolehi lot-lot tanah bersamaan dengan 1,000 ekar di Kerpan untuk membangunkan sebuah projek akuakultur udang bersama dengan Kumpulan Bin Laden dari Arab Saudi. [2] Ladang udang itu telah dibangunkan dengan suntikan modal sebanyak RM65juta.
