In order to be strong you need to have a thirst for power and be selfish. (Gojo explains that Megumi's mindset is wrong and says that he needs to be more selfish and not do the sacrificial punt for the team.
One Japanese source says that according to the Dirgha Agama, the Buddha pointed to the heavens and then to the earth before saying this quote. Perhaps that is the origin of this difference - the Agamas only seem to be preserved in Chinese, so I guess this could be a variation on the story of the Buddha's birth that was not preserved in any of the Pali/Sanskrit texts.
Aug 8, 2023 · The original is about achieving enlightenment. “Throughout Heaven & Earth, I Alone am the Honored One”. The wordplay is meant to be egotistical, and describe the hubris of one who claims to be the most powerful. “Throughout Heaven & Earth, Only I Reign Supreme”. Gojo being high on power lends credit to him using the wordplay.
May 20, 2022 · The translations are iffy because they try to directly translate the words and sentences one to one and people misunderstand 尊, but in all fairness it usually means respect/honor as it’s always used with or as a short form of 尊敬. But if you break it down, 尊 actually means a person with higher position while 敬 means paying respects ...
Oct 22, 2022 · Neither of them is “the honored one” because that’s not really a thing in JJK, it’s a quote from Buddha but there’s no chosen one in JJK or anything like that. It’s a statement on how Sukuna views himself. As someone who’s desires, wants and will are divine and more important than that of others. Reply.
Jul 21, 2022 · He is indeed the only Tathagatha in this world system .. so He alone is the Honoured One. It is not arrogant, it is true. He was however very polite when He told His disciples to support their former religion ( so that the holy people and public infrastructure they create remain functional for the benefit of others ) BUT when directly questioned if the former religions can lead to Liberation ..
I liked both of them. I always wondered if it was significant that Gojo called himself the honored one while Sukuna was called the honored one by others. 236 showed it was. When Gojo called himself the honored one, Sukuna was still a fucking finger. The devs fixed that in the patch notes about 2 chapters back.
