Jul 14, 2007 · I Kings 2ff describes Elijah's last day(s) on Earth. It says that he and Elisha walked from Gilgal to Bethel to Jericho and then back to the Jordan. Is this a reasonable distance to travel in one day?

At the beginning of 2 Kings 2, Elijah travels from Gilgal to Bethel to Jericho to the Jordan before being taken up in the whirlwind. Elisha then mostly reverses this course crossing back over the Jordan, going up to Jericho on to Bethel and from there returning to Samaria.
Jun 7, 2024 · One such text is 2 Kings 2:1–2, in which the prophets Elijah and Elisha say they will go down from Gilgal to Bethel. As Bethel is located in the highlands north of Jericho, it seems impossible for Gilgal to be the site near Jericho, which sits considerably lower than Bethel.
