In Half-Life 2, the G-Man can be killed when a player spawns an enemy NPC next to the G-Man. All NPCs in Half-Life will never attack the G-Man. However, in Half-Life 2 and its Episodes, any NPCs that are not allied to the Rebels will attack the G-Man when they see him. However, this can only be seen through console commands.

At the end of HL:A, G-man plucked Alyx out of time so Alyx can save her father in the future. I think it had to be Alyx because of G-mans ”restrictions”. With other theories, I agree that Gman went back in time to get himself imprisoned on purpose to prove his superiors Alyx’s worth.
What you see in Episode 2 was the original ending, but G-Man grant Alyx to alter that ending, as a thanks for saving him (G-Man) in this game. In other words, Episode 2's ending is no longer valid. 2.
