What is a Judgment in Default of Appearance? A JID of appearance is a judgment entered against a Defendant when they fail to enter appearance within the specified time frame after being served with a Writ of Summons or an Originating Summons. It signifies the Defendant's failure to respond or defend themselves in court.

But act fast as time is of the essence: you only have thirty (30) days from the date of receipt of the JID to file the setting aside application in court under Order 42 rule 13 of the Rules of Court 2012 (“ROC 2012”). O. 42 r. 13: Setting aside or varying judgment and orders.
If the defendant fails to adhere to the time limit and fails to request an extension, you get to keep your judgment in default. Aside from this time limit, the rules on how to set aside a judgment in default vary when there is a regular judgment in default and an irregular judgment in default.
Summary Judgment. Under Order 14 rule 1 (1) of the Rules of Court 2012 (“ROC 2012”), a Plaintiff may, after the Defendant enters into appearance, apply to the Court for an order for Summary Judgment against the Defendant on the ground that the Defendant has no defence to a claim or any part thereof except as to the amount of any damages claimed.
APPLICATION TO ENTER JUDGMENT IN DEFAULT OF APPEARANCE OR DEFENCE. Under O. 13, r. 4 ROC, the time permitted for entering appearance is 14 days where the Writ is served within Peninsular Malaysia or 21 days for Writ served in Sabah and Sarawak.
