Belum-Temengor is the largest continuous forest complex in Peninsular Malaysia. Specifically, it is located in the Malaysian state of Perak ( Hulu Perak) and crosses into Southern Thailand. Belum-Temenggor is divided into two sections. Belum is located up north, right by the Malaysia-Thailand border, while Temenggor is south of Belum.

1. It’s even older than the Amazon. Estimated to be over 130 million years old, the Belum-Temenggor rainforest dates to a time when dinosaurs still existed. In fact, it’s widely regarded as the world’s oldest rainforest, older than the Amazon or Congo. It’s also one of Malaysia’s last remaining virgin forests.
The rainforest area covered by Belum Temenggor it’s almost four times bigger than Singapore island and yet it hosts only three eco-resorts in its whole territory, where only few man made infrastructures can be seen. Two hospitality structures are located in Banting island, in the middle of Temenggor lake.

History and conservation status. Belum Temenggor is likely to be in existence for over 130 million years. It’s one of the World’s oldest rainforests, an ecosystem older than both the Amazon and the Congo. This is compatible with the age of the mountain ranges of Malaysia, which appeared through orogenesis at the beginning of the Mesozoic era.
Belum is a national park that is located about 2 hours drive from Ipoh. It is less commercialized in relative to others in the country. The whole rain forest is scattered with man-made islands resulted from the construction of the Temenggor hydroelectric dam decades ago.
