    History of Colonial Williamsburg. The restoration of Williamsburg began with the Rev. Dr. W.A.R. Goodwin, rector of Bruton Parish Church, sharing his vision for Williamsburg with philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr. and his wife, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, in 1924.
