May 3, 2007 · Back in 1907, Riverdale Collegiate Institute was completely surrounded by farmland. A hundred years and several renovations later, the local high school has become one of the most important aspects of the thriving Riverdale community having served generations of young people.
Riverdale Collegiate Institute (Riverdale CI, RCI, or Riverdale) is a semester high school located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada owned and operated by the Toronto Board of Education until its amalgamation in 1998 into the Toronto District School Board.
In 1907, Riverdale High School opened on Gerrard Street. Soon renamed Riverdale Collegiate Institute, the school was built to service Toronto students east of the Don River. Seen in this photograph shortly after it opened, Riverdale Collegiate was a striking, solid building.
