Volunteers are the backbone of SEATRU to sustain sea turtle conservation project at Chagar Hutang Turtle Sanctuary, Redang Island, Terengganu since 1998. It was developed to provided assistance to the long-term monitoring, tagging, in-situ egg incubation, research and conservation for sea turtles.
Chagar Hutang Turtle Sanctuary is located at the northern part of Redang Island which is the main landing place for Green and Hawskbill turtle. It is one of the important nesting beaches in Redang Island, with nesting ranging from 700 to 1700 nests annually. Peak nesting season is from May to July.
