For subcutaneous masses, slippage sign is characteristic for lipoma. It can be elicited by gently sliding fingers off the tumor feeling for its slippery edge, or capsule. Keep in mind that lipomas located deeper within the soft tissue might not elicit this sign very clearly, or at all.
Oct 3, 2023 · Cutaneous lipomas are usually soft, mobile, and superficial. Lipomas have no malignant potential. However, the differential diagnosis of liposarcoma should be carefully considered. Surgical resection is indicated for symptomatic relief, pathological confirmation, or cosmetic reasons, or if there is an increase in size.
