I also found the same workaround of downloading into an empty model. Interesting that this is recommended practice–I learned something new!
Dec 5, 2019 · I’ve imported into the desktop application of SketchUp 2017 a .png image that I’ve carved from a jpg. in Corel Paintshop pro. Importing the file in png. kept the transparency I need, as I will be nestling the image into a fitted box. Saving the image as a component and then pulling up the face doesn’t make it solid. Feb 7, 2023 · Currently, I can flatten the 3D model to ⅛", but I feel that Layout might grab the wrong edge for placing dimensions. Thanks for considering my issue. Your profile indicates that you are using SketchUp Pro. You shall have the Layout program too. You can use Layout to get the 2D images that you need. Just as Jean_lemire_1 says, you can use Layout.
Dec 16, 2019 · There are extensions that would allow you to flatten the cylinder so that you can make a pattern. The maximum paper dimension you can set in LayOut is 200" by 200". If your flattened pattern is longer than that you would need to split the pattern in two. This can easily be done in LayOut while leaving the pattern whole in SketchUp.

Jul 4, 2016 · Download the RBZ file and then, in SketchUp, under Window, find Preferences>Extensions. Click on Install Extension…, navigate to the file, select it and choose Open and click the affirmative responses after that. It will install and be loaded and appear in the Extensions menu. Oct 23, 2015 · Make sure the model you want to split is a component (blank). Create a face at the splitting plane such that the face is larger than the component/ group when viewed from top. Pull this face to create a six sided solid and make it a component (tool). Now use solid tool and SUBTRACT the tool from the blank to get one side.
