Feb 12, 2020 · A Star Is Born was written by 3 men and it shows. It’s so easy to just make the mother dead or gone rather than have to imagine how a relationship with a mother would affect the plot. The same is true of depictions of the LGBTQ community in mainstream films written by straight people. They are almost always portrayed as white, male, and have straight friends.
