Feb 13, 2016 · Created on February 13, 2016. File Explorer: Black background on Windows 10 folders. When I display folders in "medium icons" or "large icons" or "extra large icons" view, some of them have black backgrounds; others have white backgrounds. Why is this?
Aug 31, 2019 · Replied on August 31, 2019. Report abuse. Hi Karen. Open the Settings App. Go to Personalization - Colors. Set 'Choose your Color' to Custom. Set Windows Mode to Dark. Set App Mode to Light. Then in the Settings App, go to Home - Ease of Access - High Contrast.
Motivation: Although there may be other uses of this, my motivation is from a user's point of view. I prefer to use dark themes both on my OS and my browser, but many applications and websites set only either the background or the text color, while at the same time doesn't bother with setting the other one.

Scroll to the bottom of that page, then set 'Default App Mode' to Light. That should remove that dark background from File Explorer . . .etc.
Close the Personalization window. Your Desktop should turn black without showing any wallpaper on the screen. To finally fix this issue, you have to turn on your Desktop icons once again and disable them again. METHOD 2: Change Themes folder to not hidden. try changing the Themes folder to not hidden.
