Feb 16, 2021 · The Commando socket is protected by a 32A fuse/circuit breaker so the smallest size of flexible cable that can be safety protected is 4mm2 (Table 4F3A). You would struggle to get that into the 13A socket so the cable on these adapters is likely to be lighter and therefore vulnerable to overheating/catching fire in the event of a fault such as cable damage. Oct 26, 2021 · Before using a 32A commando EVSE, I would strongly recommend a full, professional check of how it is all wired up as many hours at 32A puts a lot of strain on the connections, etc. The socket needs to have appropriate RCD protection which depends on type of EVSE, but at least Type A. The thread below explains why....
Aug 16, 2023 · Edit: Following @Peirpoint's comment, you either fit a commando socket OR fit an EV charge point with a Type 2 socket. You can't just fit a Type 2 socket to a cable. The above assumes that you fit a commando socket and plug a portable EVSE (granny charger) with a commando plug into it.

Jun 13, 2020 · First step; Just leave everything alone, but disconnect the existing EVSE from its connection to the mains and put a 32A plug on a short lead and wire that lead into the EVSE. Second step; put a shuttered socket at the mains end you have just made that used to be connected to the EVSE.
Sep 28, 2020 · Won't physically fit a 32A Commando plug. The 32A cable will draw 32A and can't be used with a normal 3 pin (13A) socket. Even the 16A version of the OHME cable will draw too much current for a 13A socket unless you can tell the car to dial down the current. Aug 5, 2019 · This has now been resolved with a 65amp standalone connection to my garage with a 40amp radial EV circuit. I am though left with the original garage 32 amp feed from the MCB. The sub-contractor now suggests that fitting a 32 amp Commando Socket would be safe for charging an EV. Reading this thread, I am guessing that his suggestion is not worth ...
