The International Trade in Endangered Species Act 2008 [Act 686] (INTESA) was approved by the Parliament of Malaysia and was gazetted on 14 February 2008. Consequently, a regulation on Permit, Certificate, Registration and Fees was gazetted on 28 December 2009.

It was enacted to implement the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora and to provide for other matters connected therewith.
This Act aims to regulate international trade of wild animals and plants and to ensure Malaysia s compliance towards the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) obligations.
