Renting a car is expensive over here, you can try to Uber and use public transportation as public transportation will get you EVERYWHERE, it's cheap, safe and it never fails, buses usually go out each 20-30 minutes depending on location. Vamos is the best car rental, price wise and car quality.

However, driving in Rome is not that bad. I am from Boston and the driving is very similar. I feel right at home driving in Rome or Boston.
