Oct 8, 2024 · It’s probably cheaper and definitely easier to sell the current 5008 with the normally aspirated 1.6L engine and buy one with the 1.6L turbo since both engines were available for the 5008 according to the link below. You will lose the fun factor of making the conversion though. BTW, I also think you will need a different ECU to manage the 5FV.

The only way they can increase performance on a naturally aspirated engine is to turn the timing up. Which will require higher octane fuel to be used.

  5. May 2, 2008 · The initial oil analysis work peope have been posting would suggest that these motors are brutal on oil and can run super hot. They consume no or less than a natural aspirated engine. I own two turbo Subaru’s (WRX & Legacy GT) and have 0-0.5QT consumption over 4000 miles. Some consumption is normal on vehicles whether turbo or not.

After hard use- extended periods “on boost” like racing- can raise the temp of the turbo to over 1000 degrees, so turning the engine off w/o letting the coolant and oil circulate through and cool it off can lead to cooking the bearings and oil.
