Mar 7, 2018 · When the head of Uniqlo asked him to design a logo for the business, Sato chose red and white, which he said instantly identifies Uniqlo as Japanese because it is reminiscent of the country’s flag. He then designed an English type face in English inspired by katakana, a Japanese writing system or alphabet used to for foreign words.
The new logo is rewritten in a custom typeface and paired with a second logo in Katakana reading "ユニクロ" (yunikuro). This logo premiered on its first global flagship store in the SoHo fashion district of Manhattan, New York City in November 2006. It became an official logo in Japan since 2009.

The history of this clothing brand logo dates back to March 1949, when it was founded as a small textile company in Yamaguchi, Japan, by entrepreneur Tadashi Yanai.
Former Uniqlo logo used from 1997, continued to be used alongside the current logo in Japan until 2009.
