In April 2013, USW was formed following a merger of the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport. Since its formation, the University has offered over 500 courses, welcoming students from more than 120 countries.

The South Wales and Monmouthshire School of Mines, founded in 1913, evolved into the Polytechnic of Wales before becoming the University of Glamorgan in 1992. At the university’s formation it was the sixth largest university in the United Kingdom, with 33,500 students.
Glamorgan has been rated Wales’s top new university in the Guardian’s prestigious annual league table. Located in the UK, in South Wales, between the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park and Cardiff, one of Europe's most exciting capital cities, it's a wonderful place to study and live.
