That is why the mantra is called "Tripada Gayatri". Each foot is the essence of a Veda. Thus Gayatri is the essence of Rgveda, Yajurveda and Samaveda.

Just for completeness - The Gayatri mantra that Sri Devi Bhagavatam contains in the first or second chapter (forgot and can't recall the exact chapter off the top of my head) is not the same one (s) in the Rg Veda. It is a different mantra (sarva chaitanya rupAm tAmAdhyam vidyAm cha DhImahI | buddhim yAna prachOdayAt ||).
