Sidney was a South London boy, clever enough to get a place at the LSE, from where he went straight into the film industry in 1930, at the age of 21. He started out as a ‘scenario reader’ at Stoll Studios, and quickly struck up a friendship with Thorold Dickinson who was working as an editor.

Sidney Henry Cole (31 October 1908 – 25 January 1998) was a British film and television producer. Earlier in his career he worked as a film editor. Cole was educated at the London School of Economics (LSE), and entered the film industry as a scenario reader for Stoll Picture Productions, a company founded by Sir Oswald Stoll.
