The University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (abbreviated as UC Law SF or UC Law) is a public law school in San Francisco, California, United States. It was previously known as the University of California, Hastings College of the Law from 1878 to 2023.
University of California Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings) was established in 1878. Our school was created as the first law school of the UC system with one guiding principle: to place students close to where they would practice the law. 150 years ago, it would have been the courts.
The law school is now known as University of California College of the Law, San Francisco or UC Law SF for short, after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1936, which revised the California Education Code, striking the name “Hastings” from the school.
Applications for Fall 2025 will open on August 15, 2024. The application is here. The deadline for Fall 2025 enrollment is April 15, 2025 . For the 2024-2025 application cycle, the $75 application fee has been waived for all applicants.
