Berdasarkan profil Sathianathan, beliau mula berjinak dalam dunia kejurulatihan pada 1992 apabila membimbing Negeri Sembilan dalam saingan Piala Emas. Seterusnya mendiang menyertai FAM apabila menjadi penolong jurulatih skuad Olimpik negara dari 1997-1999 dan 2002-2004.
