  1. Apr 20, 2014 · Have a 1990 Daihatsu Rocky and I don't want to swap in a 22RE ... too big, not enough horsepower stock, etc. I own the Rocky because it's different. I don't mind challenging parts availability - Daihatsu still offers parts from Japan so it's actually not a problem.

  3. Mar 22, 2009 · The engine is reaching the end of its days and I'm getting tired of just holding it together. I was hoping there might be another engine out there that would possibly swap into the transmission on the Rocky. I'm on quite a budget but it might actually be cheaper to throw a whole engine in this thing than try to round up the parts for this thing.

  4. Jun 28, 2006 · If you like a challenge and are 100% WILLING TO LEARN, then keep the Rocky. Otherwise, you might want to look into a more appropriate 4x4, preferable one with a solid front axle (this is totally opposite of IFS). I can think of a few examples: early 80's Toyota's, Dodges, and Chevy's , late 70's Fords, or Samurais.

  5. Jul 18, 2005 · I have a '91 Rocky with 191K on the original engine, rebuilt 3 years ago, but the heads are leaking again. I was set on a V6 but you've convinced me that there's plenty more horsepower to be had in the low-displacement 4-banger range. I have 31" Goodyear Wranglers.

  7. Jul 20, 2006 · It's a 1988 Daihatsu Fourtrak F77 LWB Pickup. It would of originally had a proper bed on the back, but this rotted out and was replaced with the Nissan Cabstar flat bed you see now. The chassis is made from mandrel bent 2x4" box and has 2" tubular crossmembers. Although very well engineered from the factory, the little Dai has been completly ...

  8. Jul 3, 2017 · I believe they used a 5.29 axle ratio which was compatible with the Daihatsu front. Reply Like. G. Gwagensteve. 662 posts · Joined 2006. #9 · Jul 3, 2017. Just confirmed the rocky has a 5.29 axle ratio. Easy to match with a Toyota. Obviously also gives you access to lockers.

  9. Oct 18, 2004 · Some wrenching and $10 later I had my very own Daihatsu Rocky pitman arm. It turns out that the Rocky arm is indeed nearly flat with about a 1/2"-3/4" of drop, and is about 1/2"-3/4" shorter hole to hole. The more important thing is that the pitman arm has the same number of splines (-1) as a toy pitman arm and it has the same taper.

  10. Sep 30, 2003 · Ive desided to to a sas on my Rocky. Ive been trying to deside what would be the best Diff. to use. I was thinking somthing out of a CJ or maybe a toyota.
