The MGA is a sports car that was produced by MG from 1955 until 1962. The MGA replaced the MG TF 1500 Midget and represented a complete styling break from MG's earlier sports cars. Announced on 26 September 1955 [3] the car was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
MG made both sports cars and saloons in the 1960s. There were two ranges of sports car, the MG Midget and the larger MGA/MGB ranges. The saloons were tuned-up and more luxurious versions of Austin or Morris saloons. MG was part of BMC for most of the 1960s.

The '1600' engine is a four-cylinder, 1588-cc, ohv unit (dimensionally identical to the ohc unit fitted in the 1600 'Twin Cam' model discontinued in 1960) which develops 79.5 bhp at 5600 rpm and the car features a number of modifications including restyled rear wing plinths and front disc brakes.
