The Penang Hill cable car is a gondola lift under construction in George Town, the capital city of the Malaysian state of Penang. The 2.73 km (1.70 mi) line will connect the Penang Botanic Gardens to the peak of Penang Hill and is intended to complement the existing Penang Hill Railway.

Jun 29, 2024 · GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Hill Cable Car project has taken off and is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2026. It would start from Penang Botanic Gardens which 1.2ha of land will be used for its three-storey Garden Station with food and beverage as well as retail outlets.
The cable car alignment will start from the garden station located at the existing Economic Garden (Taman Ekonomi) in Penang Botanic Gardens and end at the summit of Penang Hill, behind the Penang Hill Police Station. The cable car line is 2.73 kilometres long and will feature 50 eight-seater gondolas, with a ride time of less than 10 minutes.

Bhd. has secured the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) project for the Penang Cable Car project in Penang Hill with a RM250mil investment via a public private partnership (PPP) initiative with the Penang State government.
With the combined expertise and commitment of Hartasuma, Doppelmayr, Penang state government and Penang Hill Corporation (PHC), the Penang Hill cable car project is poised to become a popular landmark for the region and serve as the gateway to the Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve.
